Security was tightened around the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City on Tuesday morning in preparation for the highly-touted wedding of Senator Mar Roxas and broadcaster Korina Sanchez later in the afternoon.
GMA News’ Bernadette Reyes said in a Flash Report that about 50 bouncers tasked to secure the area were gathered hours before the scheduled 3 p.m. wedding, which is expected to be attended by high-profile political and showbiz personalities.
Police from the Quezon City Police Department are also on standby to assist in securing peace and order.
Roxas and Sanchez have invited 2,000 guests for the wedding. Among the principal sponsors are Chief Justice Reynato Puno, Liberal Party chairman emeritus Jovito Salonga, ABS-CBN chairman and chief executive officer Eugenio Lopez III, Roxas’ uncle George Araneta and Liberal Party presidential bet Senator Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III. Noynoy will be taking the place of his mother, former President Corazon Aquino, who died on August 1 after almost a year of battle with colon cancer.
“Yung ibang officials basta magdadala ng bodyguards bawal ho yung firearms sa loob ng simbahan (For officials who will be bringing bodyguards, please be reminded that firearms will not be allowed inside the church),” said Mike Miñana, head of wedding coordination and security
“Everybody can bring their cameras, [but] probably their cameras would only be yung mga cellphone at the very most,” he added.
Aside from the guests, another 2,000 supporters are expected to show up outside the church. A tent has been put up where the onlookers can watch the wedding from four giant screens, the report said.
Sto. Domingo and Biak na Bato streets will become one-way streets starting 1 p.m. until the end of the wedding, added the report. – Jam Sisante, GMANews.TV
